Events Internship

Overview: An exciting opportunity to help build your portfolio! Assist with making all details of WGI Regional Championships and World Championships come to life. Assist with organizing materials and schedules, managing shipping calendars, and creating documents and signs to assure the events run smoothly. Assignments will focus on operational tasks (facility/equipment/supply issues and arrangements) and event on-site operation (scheduling and correspondence/procedure & flow operations).

Details: Approximately 10 – 15 hours per week in our Dayton, Ohio, office. Because we are a producer of “special events,” employees and interns sometimes work on a flexible basis, with substantially more time being worked during and immediately prior to events. Hours will be flexible to fit your schedule between a 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. regular work-day. The program adjusts to your school calendar and WGI will do all that is possible and necessary to assist in efforts to secure academic credit for your experience. During our World Championships in April, hours will include up to seven, 16- to 18-hour days.

Marketing Internship

Dates: January – April

Overview: Did you know that most marching arts fans keep up with WGI through social media? Be one of the people who create and provide that to them throughout the competitive season! In this position, the marketing intern will not only communicate to WGI’s audience but will also help market and execute the biggest indoor marching arts event of the year!

Details: This is a paid, in-person internship that requires approximately 14 hours per week (2 work days). Because we are a producer of “special events,” employees and interns sometimes work on a flexible basis, with substantially more time being worked immediately prior to and during events. Hours during the week are flexible to work with your class schedule. During our World Championships in April, however, hours will include up to seven, 16- to 18-hour days.

Responsibilities include:

    • working closely with the WGI Marketing Team to create and develop seasonal marketing strategies
    • Developing/creating content for social media channels
    • Writing/Editing of feature stories for WGI.org
    • Assist in the marketing and operation of WGI World Championships

      Requirements: The Marketing Internship is catered toward individuals pursuing a marketing or communications degree but is open to applicants of all fields. Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills; An in-depth working knowledge of various media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat; and experience with social media analytics, including Google Analytics and Facebook Insight.

      Experience posting and scheduling content across various social media platforms using Hootsuite (or similar scheduling program) and WordPress (or similar program) is preferred but not required. Graphic design experience (including a working proficiency of Photoshop) is preferred but not required.

      WGI Writers

      Overview: This is a great year-round opportunity for anyone seeking to write about the marching arts. WGI offers freelance and contracted writing positions to keep WGI’s audience up-to-date on the latest color guard, percussion and winds news. Writers will be assigned stories as well as be asked to pitch article ideas for website features and event coverage.

      Details: This position is for someone with experience in writing for publications or is studying to become a journalist.
