The WGI Board of Directors emerged from a 20-month in-person meeting hiatus as they recently gathered in Las Vegas for their annual summer meeting. The following are some highlights from this meeting as we enter our 45th Anniversary Season.
For over two decades, WGI has had a disciplined financial strategy that included a sizable contingency fund for any emergency. With a very successful virtual season and fundraising totaling over $100,000, plus federal COVID-19 relief programs, the organization is in the process of bringing back furloughed staff in anticipation of a full season next year. 
The board acknowledged that groups will still be facing many challenges transitioning back into a live competitive indoor season. Therefore, they approved a one-year rule change impacting all three divisions: Eliminate the minimum performance times and minimum equipment times for the 2022 season. 
The board approved a series of virtual events to run in tandem with the 2022 in-person event calendar. More information on the virtual event offerings for the 2022 season will be announced in the coming months. View the 2022 in-person WGI event calendar 
Members of the program presented three different proposals for board consideration. The Future Leaders program developed by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee allows young leaders in the marching arts to serve as a bridge between the Board of Directors and the Performing Membership of WGI. Watch for more information about one proposal that was approved for immediate action coming soon!
